How do we know the size of the toilet bowl to get? - lightings.com.sg

Water closet or toilet bowl are generally divided into two different type.

Namely the P trap or S trap type.

P trap type usually occur in condo or landed houses as private developer will sometimes build the sewage hole from the wall. In most HDB houses in singapore , the sewage pipe is usually build on the ground.

Most people will ask us which one to choose from. The answer will depend on the roughing in size. The size determine the selection of the water closet that you can select from .

How to determine the roughing in size?

The roughing in size is measured from the wall to the middle of the sewage hole.

If the measurement of my roughing size is 5 inches. What is the wc i should get?

Most suppiler will have roughing size for s trap in 6 inch or 10 inches. For the case above with a roughing size of 5 inches, you should get a s trap wc of 6 inches with a pan collar of 1 inch. The pan collar is a connection pipe to join the sewage hole to the wc outlet. The pan collar size of 1 inch can be use to offset the 6 inch s trap from the wc during installation.

Generally if your sewage hole is on the ground. You will need to get the roughing in size and thereafter you can select the type of wc base on the sizes. Below is a guide after knowing your sizes.

Roughing in

1 to 3 inches - P trap wc

4 to 8 inches - S Trap 150mm (6 inch )

8 inches to 12 inches  - S trap 250mm (10 inch)
